Auction Sales

Our Auctions are held on Thurdays, commencing at 02:00pm, at Manchester Old Rd, Middleton

Manchester, M24 4DY. We hold approximately 10 Auctions a year, each Sale-day commences with a ‘Specialist’ themed Auction. Live online bidding is available at all of our auctions, in addition to the traditional methods of viewing and bidding.

Specialist Auctions:

We hold three types of Specialist Auctions -

  • Jewellery, Watches, Silver & Coins

  • Pictures, Ceramics, Works of Art & Clocks

  • Collectors Items, Transport, Toys & Models, Medals, Militaria, Stamps & Postcards 

The ‘Jewellery, Watches, Silver & Coins,’ and ‘Pictures, Ceramics, Works of Art & Clocks,’ specialist sales are each held quarterly, while auctions of ‘Collectors Items, Transport, Toys & Models, Medals, Militaria, Stamps & Postcards’ take place every six months. The last date for entering items into these auctions is four weeks before sale day.

Good Antiques & Home Interiors Sales:

These include -

  • Fine Period and Antique Furniture, 20thC Design; High quality modern furniture, Retro & Vintage; Clocks and Objects

  • Decorative Pictures, Ceramics & Glass, Lighting, Textiles & Rugs, Garden Statuary, etc.,

These sales are held ten times a year and take place after the 'Specialist Sale' has been sold. The last date for entering items is two weeks before the sale.

Parking:

There is limited short-stay customer parking at the rear of the  Saleroom, however we are less than 5 minute's walk from 15 Silk St Parking (M24 4DU), and 10 minute's walk from Middleton Shopping Centre Car Park (M24 4EL).

Bidding:

If you wish to bid for anything at one of our auctions you can do so in several ways:

In Person:

You will need to register at the Saleroom Reception for a Bidding Number: two proofs of identity will be required.

Absentee bid:

Complete a 'Commission Bidding Form' in the sale-room and hand it in at Reception or send your bids by email; include your address and contact details, tell us the lot number(s) and the highest hammer price that you are prepared to bid up to for each lot. We will email you with a confirmation of your bids, and aim to buy on your behalf for the lowest available price.

Telephone bid:

For higher value or speculative lots, you can email and leave your phone number to make an appointment with our staff, our staff members who will relay the bidding between you and the auctioneer; please reserve the line by phone or email at least one day before the auction day.

Live online bidding:

All of our auctions offer live online bidding platforms: www.liveautioneers.com. If you can't be present in person, you can request high-definition photos from our staff via internal message or email. This can help you review the auction items as if you were on the spot.


Live online bidding fees, charged in addition to the saleroom Buyers Premium (all subject to VAT) are as follows:

  • Through liveauctioneers.com website - 5% of hammer price 

 

Buyer's Premium:

Each lot is subject to a Buyer's Premium of 20% (If the transaction is completed through liveauctioneer.com, a total Buyer's Premium of 20% + 5% = 25% needs to be paid.).

Payment:

We accept payment by:

  • Debit and Credit cards (unlimited amount if by Chip and Pin, but only up to £500 if paying remotely)

  • Bank Transfer

  • Cheques (if you are unknown to us we will wait for it to clear before releasing the items)

  • Cash (up to a limit of £5,000)

 

Clearing:

Purchases must be cleared within 10 working days after the auction date. We have porters available from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm on Monday to Thursday, with a lunch break from 12:00 noon to 1:30 pm. There is a short-term parking lot and loading/unloading area at the rear of The Salerooms.

 

Note: Settlement services are not available on Friday - this is the day when suppliers bring items for sale, so all our teams and parking/loading and unloading facilities are occupied.

Postage and Delivery:

Mancunian are able to pack and post most items (chargeable at £20 per hour plus packing materials, plus Postage);  we can give contact details of several antiques couriers who can help transport bigger or more complicated items around the UK.

 

International P&P, including EU Countries: we are happy to pack items ready for collection but, following the imposition of new regulations and export/import charges, buyers are responsible for paying any duties and charges due. Before bidding, please check the laws in your country.

Mancunian operates a Free Auction Alert email service which will notify you of each forthcoming Sale and link you directly to the online Catalogue. Please contact us to request inclusion onto our e-mailing list.
